The scope of the digital economy is omnipresent. It exponentially boosts free trade, greater penetration and economic participation of the entire society.
The digital economy has been the gateway to a wide variety of products from all over the world, with which supply, demand and competition have changed, establishing new standards of use and, of course, of security. The digital world offers us endless options and exceptional consumer experiences with 24/7 access, convenience and simplicity. But BEWARE! As we participate in this digitisation, we must take into account some tips to prevent fraudsters and cyber-criminals from ruining our experience.
There will always be the probability of some fraud or bad experience because that's the way the world is. OK, let's get over it. What do we do?.
1. Protect your devices. Before making purchases, make sure that the device you are going to use is properly protected, with the system and applications updated.
2. Use secure connections. Check that the type of connection used is a private network or a reliable institution when entering personal data or your cards. Be careful with connecting to public WiFi networks as your data can be intercepted.
3. Be careful when they send you links. On many occasions these links can steal your data and hack your social media accounts. The more data cyber fraudsters collect, the more money they can steal!
4. Beware of emails that request information. It is very common for you to receive an email from a recognized institution (but false !!), for example, from the AFORE where you are. If they ask for information on behalf of the institution, call by phone and make sure not to give any information by mail.
5. Avoid fake phone calls. There is no shortage of those who pose as employees of a bank or recognized company to try to steal information. Don't proportion it; If you have any questions, call the official phones and report what is happening.
6. Validate website addresses. Check that the site address begins with https: // and that it has a lock in the address bar.
7. Regularly review your account charges. If possible, configure notifications to receive an email each time a transaction is made.
8. Have discipline in controlling your cards. It is important that you always maintain a minimum balance of use on your credit cards and that you block and unblock them only when necessary.
9. Keep track of your cards. If you pay in a store with your card, do not allow them to take it and take it to another place. Always have it with you to prevent someone from obtaining the card number, CVV and expiration date.
Despite these tips, you may sometimes have to deal with fraudsters. Monitor constantly, contact your Bank as soon as possible, report the problem and reject the charges.
Keep in mind that every economy (in this case the digital one) has risks and challenges to face. All of this is part of the discipline and perseverance necessary to achieve good financial hygiene. You have to be prepared.
